As a longtime fan of Scott and Alison Stratten I fully anticipated this book being enjoyable, insightful, and, most of all, very entertaining. And it was certainly all three!

It was also much more than just that, however. While I expected it to primarily be a “spill” regarding what people did that gets on our nerves, along with some insightful comebacks (thinking of the old MAD Magazine feature, “Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions”) the two coauthors went a different direction.

Throughout these pages the reader learns how to respond positively – rather than simply react – to those annoyances often experienced through the typically unthinking aspects of human nature. Sometimes that response includes an appropriate action, other times the best response is to let it go while appreciating certain things we otherwise might not have considered. In other words, to reframe the situation in order to recognize just how fortunate we are.

When you notice that aspect of the book it moves from simply fun and entertaining to a number of significant life lessons!

The authors provide a disclaimer at the beginning acknowledging that through the message in this book they aren’t “solving world hunger” and such.

That’s true. They are not. But they ARE doing something very important: they are providing wonderful examples regarding how we can make sure we are respecting others (via not emulating said jackasses) and appropriately dealing with those relatively minor acts of “jackassery” by others that are simply part of life.

In other words, they are helping us to become effective human beings who can make positive contributions to the world around us. And for that…I thank them!

This book is a fantastic, in-your-face challenge reminding us that in every scenario we can’t control, we have the option to respond in one of two ways: with kindness, love, and humanity, OR, like a total jackass. With a scorecard to tally your typical response, biting wit, and a serious call to accountability in life’s little moments- this book is needed in today’s divisive climate more than ever. Highly recommend to attract more more peace and love into your everyday life, and really maximize your opportunities to be a better human.
